The Author
Tom Venuto's book starts out by saying that the book was written by a bodybuilder but is not for bodybuilders. Tom's book, Burn the Fat Feed The Muscle has been around for a long while although it has been updated and is probably one of the most popular fat burning E books around .Tom himself has been in the fitness industry for many years.
Content
The main thrust of this book is Fat Loss. Specifically nutrition. In fact I would say about 80% of the book is all about proper nutrition (not necessarily say diet.) In saying that Tom is very clear that his program is actually about combining nutrition with exercise. There is no better way to increase your metabolism and sustain permanent healthy fat loss than with this combination.
Furthermore Tom tells us that its only when you combine Nutrition, Cardio and Weight training that you get a magnified result that is equal to more than the sum of its parts. This of course makes perfect sense.
An interesting question Tom posts is why you should be listening to him about fat loss? He explains that professional bodybuilders, models and the like have mastered fat loss techniques over the years in order to be successful in competition. Men in bodybuilding competitions often get down to 5% body fat. To do this they need to synchronize their bodies with all 3 pillars (Nutrition, Cardio, Weight Training.) I certainly know from what I have read that bodybuilders do know the most advanced techniques for weight loss. Professionals at that level know exactly how crabs , protein and fats work within the body but most importantly how to manipulate the body to lose fat and maintain muscle. Using a diet alone will almost certainly lead you to losing lean muscle.
Tom central theme is that we need to understand how the body works and why traditional dieting will never work. For example he illustrates an example of a Male that loses 25 pounds through dieting alone and whilst the scales say he lost 25 pounds on a very low fat diet they don't tell you that Toms body fat percentage started at 25% and is still 20%, This is because Tom lost a significant amount of muscle and only minimal fat. He outlines how scales can lie and that body fat and muscle measurements are the only real determents of fat loss.
Burn The Fat includes chapters on Motivation, Body Composition (Fat to Muscle Ratio), Your Body Type, About Calories, Meal Frequency, About Proteins, Fats and crab ohydrates, An Eating Plan, Cardio and Weight Training plus much more.
Conclusion
Burn the Fat, Feed The Muscle is a comprehensive 340 page E Book on maximizing Fat Loss through Nutrition, Cardio and Weight Training . The Book is well written and is definitely packed with lots of information on every aspect of nutrition, including measuring body fat, why diets don't work and much more. As Tom says it is one of the most comprehensive books on nutrition and fat loss with 80% of the pages dedicated to nutrition. So overall I would say if your after a lot of information on nutrition and fat loss and the principles behind this then there is probably no one better than Tom. The work is very detailed. For me personally I found many of his chapters useful on losing stubborn fat and especially how to safely control crab ohydrates. I did not particularly think I needed all the information provided on Nutrition as for me I preferred to stick with the general concept of healthy meals overall with a particular focus on muscle growth and cardio for fat loss. I would say though that the last two chapters on Cardio and Weights are excellent and do include some very good workouts and also some well thought out TRAINING METHODs with specific routines and repetitions and the exact cardio you should perform. Tom believes steady state cardio for at least 30 minutes is still the cornerstone to fat burning and should be done a minimum 3-4 times per week or up to 5-6 times for significant fat loss. Tom does go into high intensity workouts for shorter periods of 20 minutes or less and believes they are also useful but should be mixed with steady state cardio. Overall I would say this is one of the leading E Books on the market particularly in the areas of nutrition for fat loss and I would highly recommend it.
